Terms of service
These terms govern use of the Vertex API service operated by Vertex Maps LLC. By creating a key you agree to them. Last updated 2026-09-19.
The service
Section titled “The service”Vertex API provides weather-model output, observations and geographic layers over HTTP. Data is derived from the sources listed in Attribution and is provided as-is, for information. It is not a substitute for official warnings. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for decisions where an error could cause injury or loss; consult the National Weather Service and your own judgement.
Your account and keys
Section titled “Your account and keys”- Keys identify your account. Keep them secret; you are responsible for requests made with them, including by anyone you gave them to.
- One person or organisation per account. Do not create multiple free accounts to multiply the free allowance.
- We may revoke keys that abuse the service (scraping beyond the plan, evading limits, resale of raw tiles as a competing tile service, attacks).
Plans and billing
Section titled “Plans and billing”- The free plan is limited by the caps published on the pricing page and requires attribution.
- Pay-as-you-go usage is metered in credits, priced as published at the time of the request, and billed monthly in arrears through Stripe. You may set a spend cap; we enforce it, and requests beyond it fail rather than bill.
- Prices may change with 30 days’ notice on the pricing page.
- Enterprise agreements override these terms where they conflict.
Use of the data
Section titled “Use of the data”- You may cache responses and display or redistribute derived results in your products, subject to the attribution and source licences (ECMWF CC BY 4.0, OpenStreetMap ODbL, MADIS provider attribution).
- You may not resell raw Vertex tiles, feeds or forecasts as a standalone data service without an enterprise agreement.
- You may not use the service to identify or track individuals.
Availability and support
Section titled “Availability and support”The free and pay-as-you-go plans are offered without an uptime guarantee. We publish status and incidents where we can, and answer support at hello@vertexmaps.com. Uptime commitments are available under enterprise agreements.
Liability
Section titled “Liability”To the extent permitted by law, Vertex Maps LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from the service or the data, and total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”We store your email, your keys’ hashes and usage counters, and, for paid plans, a Stripe customer id. Card details never touch our systems. Request logs are retained for operations and abuse prevention and are not sold. See the Vertex Maps privacy policy for the rest.
Changes
Section titled “Changes”We may update these terms; material changes are announced in the changelog and by email to the account address.
